Post Blackberry went on a cruise while I slept
My Blackberry went on a cruise while I slept... either that, or something is hosed on the BB side or the MT side or both.

I have been in a 20 sq mile area in norcal for the last 24 hours. Apparently my phone has not. See screenshot attached to this post.

Any idea why this might happen???

Settings in MT are auto login, update every 60s, 20m change, 200m accuracy.

Any suggestions?

Yes, was in my house most of that time. The cell & GPS signal are not great there. But would have thought in that case MT would simply not update? :?:

Sometimes the GPS returns a bad accuracy when you are in a place with bad signal. What does the accuracy say for those history points?

Here are 3 that happened overnight:
1 2009-07-20 08:19:09 AM -0500 36.9993 -112.4247 -19862.20 feet 0.00 mph N 0.00 degrees 203.41 feet
2 2009-07-20 08:10:34 AM -0500 36.9607 -112.7289 -19862.20 feet 16.78 mph SW 209.35 degrees 177.17 feet
3 2009-07-20 07:54:39 AM -0500 38.0897 -113.9024 -19862.20 feet 3.06 mph NE 43.87 degrees 101.71 feet

The accuracy is supposedly w/in ~100-200 ft, but of course I was not in the arizona/utah border area at the time ;)

The elevation is interesting too, as apparently I was near the core of the earth

Anyway, it does seem to be specific to when I'm at home, so it's no biggie, just not sure why it would report these bogus values. I see other apps like google maps and even the GPS control panel itself typically can't find the GPS signal either at home. Just not sure how to prevent MT from bothering to report when the GPS is not available. Note that I *can* get a cell signal & am on the EDGE network at home, but signal is weaker than around town, and GPS doesn't seem to be easy to get.

Oh well, thanks for the replies either way....
Tim :D

I usually find that if MT grabs a point right when the GPS wakes up from standby it can give horribly inaccurate points on occasion. What would probably be best is if it takes 3 or 4 quick hits in a row and only keeps the last one.

This only seems to happen when you're not moving or moving very slowly so MT uses the timed interval rather than the distance interval, but the BB puts the GPS in standby after some period of activity. When MT goes to access the GPS it is in standby and you are probably only getting old data from a buffer until it fully wakes up and re-fixes your position.

That said I have had very little problems with accuracy (external GPS) in a long time - I can spend the whole day with it and my route is practically bang on the road. The only problem I have now is that I need to have some other app running in the background or it won't keep the GPS alive, and the last couple points it grabs right when I exit the other app (usually when I'm back at home) are usually a couple blocks off....
